We can arrange asbestos medicals either at our nationally located clinics or conveniently on your site. Please note that the availability of doctors qualified to conduct asbestos medicals can vary by location. There are two types of asbestos-related work – licensed and non-licensed:
The employer of anyone whose work might involve asbestos is responsible for deciding if the work requires a licensed contractor.
Work is classed as licensed asbestos work if the employee is undertaking regular asbestos demolition/stripping work. Before an employee starts work with licensed asbestos they will need to undergo a medical examination.
The employee will then need follow up examinations every two years whilst the exposure continues.
Generally speaking, non-licensed asbestos work applies to the majority of construction workers who may come into occasional contact with asbestos (however if you are unsure whether the work your employees are carrying out is licensed or non licensed we advise you talk to the HSE). The employer of anyone whose work might involve asbestos is responsible for deciding if the work requires a licensed contractor.
The employee will then need follow up examinations at intervals no more than three years whilst the exposure continues.
