Lead Medical

Lead has long been recognised as a substance that can be harmful. Excessive exposure to lead can take place through inhalation, ingestion and skin absorption (e.g. Lead alkyls). The Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2022 require the employers to prevent or adequately control the exposure of workers.

If the exposure to lead is significant, for example it exceeds half of the occupational exposure limit, the employees should be placed under the health surveillance programme. This usually constitutes regular blood tests and medical assessment by the HSE appointed doctor.
